Solace In City Hush

Finally a moment quiet without
Noisy request, adverse choice
Without word, uneven voice
Not silence without suffering

Still the brooding swoosh of car
Cop not stopping on Culver
Buzz by ignore what passes here
Loud pitiless place and unkempt folk

Demanding attention, education
Even sordid night and tall tale
Escape one complete intention
Together in twilight run from guns

Aiming to ail stopping sound
Give silence lay down
Keep here linger wait in vain
Half-way heal half-way decay

It is said to us from the sky
The gods sport chemical eye
See more than ever our demise
More than we compromise.

  1. Your poetry has ignited me with smile and wow!!!

    I love these lines:

It is said to us from the sky
    The gods sport chemical eye
See more than ever our demise
    More than we compromise.

Genius! If I may say that about your poem here.

What inspired you to write this amazing poem?

    1. I appreciate the kind words. This one I wrote 1 year ago, and decided to rework it a bit. It is the silence that isn’t really silence you experience when living in the city. I grew up in the country but near the highway. It’s a similar manifestation yet quite contrasting However, that night, I felt it and this is what came out. ☺

  2. Pressed send too soon. Anyway, I felt the weight of the world in this one too. Thinking of home, where I was then and where I am now…what does it mean anyway? The gods sport chemical eye to manipulate this experience for us.
